POLLINATOR GARDEN UPDATE

Recently I have discovered large clumps of grass clippings being dumped in the pollinator garden at Lincoln Park. While grass clippings can be beneficial, large clumps left in one place are not. These clumps will block sunlight and suffocate growth unless the clippings are raked out over the garden. The other problem is herbicide. If these grass clippings come from a yard that has been treated by a Scott lawn product or by a lawn service, they will be toxic to the garden. Therefore, I am requesting that clippings and other lawn refuse not be placed into the garden without myself or another garden club member verifying their safety. I thank you in advance for your understanding and appreciation of what the Garden Club is trying to accomplish with this garden. As more and more of our green space gives way to housing, this garden becomes more important every year.
